Play Me Some Music, Mr. DJ

Seriously? Seriously! This part sucks. Really it does. I am nauseous from the time I open my eyes to when I finally fall asleep. I spend my time totally disgusted by food and equally ravenous...with no warning.

I'm finding myself dropping deeper and deeper into the music. If it's good, I can float away on it. Forget that my stomach is in upheaval, forget that my stamina has gone down the drain. If it isn't? Well, then I'm dancing with queasiness. Blech.

So, what makes the dj good? Tonight's music was, individually, music I like. But the combinations, or the placements, didn't work for me. I wish I knew what it is that I do or don't like, so I don't have to sit and attempt to puzzle it out. I don't understand why, what the lack of magic is, etc. And I'd like to be able to put a finger on it and say, ah...because maybe then I could get beyond my gut feeling of dislike. Maybe then I could hear what the dj had in mind and enjoy it the way he or she wanted me to.

Sadly, at the end of the night, shoes dismissed, floor mostly empty, second song into the last tanda...Oigo tu voz. sigh. it was just a miss all night.

Contrary to popular belief, great DJing is not just playing music. It is also about organizing it, and mirroring the mood on the floor.

Musical manipulation at its best.

On the second, queasiness, topic, have you ever tried fresh ginger tea? Ginger very effective at combating nausea

I imagine the dj must have a vision though, yes? Otherwise, why call themselves dj? It can't simply being the putting together of the music. They must hear a vision for the dancers, have an idea that they want to transport them with, and be willing to adjust that, right? otherwise, they're just stringing music together. i could do that.

sigh. I wonder if maybe I just miss their subtleties because I don't know the music that well, or the story of it, or maybe I walk in with expectations and there's a different mood?

I know I am sensitive to the music. If I don't like it, I can't dance it. It's the heart and soul for me, but I have to think it's that for a dj too.
So, I want to understand. I want to know his vision.

Sometimes I think I should just approach the dj and ask, but I feel out of my league. I don't even have the basics of the knowledge to converse intelligently with them about it yet. It's still all just in the instinct and feeling stage.

as for ginger tea, I'm careful with ginger. It's contraindicated in pregnancy. I'd probably have to take a lot of it, but since it's not my baby, I take fewer chances. I think I'll pick up some seabands tomorrow and see if they help. I'm taking a b supplement. And I imagine a cup a day of fresh ginger tea, or maybe some applecider with fresh ginger mulled into it, would be good too.

Didn't know about the contraindication of ginger. Sorry. But I do believe there are a variety of "natural" products that address the problem.

My mom would have a little dish with Saltines next to the bed, and would grope for them before she even opened her eyes in the morning. She said it worked...

this past friday, at a "festival," for whatever reasons, the music touched me. every time i got tired, and needing to sit down to rest, i hear the first few notes, i found myself instead looking around for a partner.

there came the time when it was obvious to my partner that i was exhausted, that i forced myself to sit down and rest, all the while cursing that i was not in better condition.

why was it so good? don't know. was it the same for everyone? don't know that either.
