oh gosh, Johanna....I don't know if it's ever really official until I put their baby in their arms.
But, I did a beta today, which test how much hcg is in my system (which indicates pregnancy) and we'll do a second one on Tuesday. If the numbers have doubled, I'll be considered pregnant.
A few weeks later we will do an u/s to see how many embryos there are, and to check for a heartbeat. The usually happens around 7 weeks. At that point, everyone breathes a sigh of relief and then really it's just getting through the first trimester, at which point the risk of miscarriage drops significantly.
I never worried about my own pregnancies, but these are harder.
Well then, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and the wee ones. Forgive me for asking retarded questions - this was an adventure I never did undertake myself.
Your questions are not dumb! The IVF world is a thing in and of itself, beyond even normal pregnancy stuff. I've been steeped in it for years, and just finally feel like I am beginning to be completely versant in the terms.
Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed for me. Looks like all the well wishes worked!
